Misunderstood

Day 29
What do you think people misunderstand most about you?

I think people misunderstand that I'm not an extreme couponer. Yes I love to save but not to an extent where I'm buying stuff I don't need or will never use. Yes I stock up on stuff that have the best deals but my family uses it all and we never sell what we get for free to make a profit. I think that's wrong.

Language

Day 28
What is your love language?

I have no clue what love language is lol

Body

Day 27
What is your favorite part of your body and why?

My favorite part of my body is my teeth. My parents paid a lot of money to get them fixed and I am grateful for that. I think I have a really great smile and I have my nice white straight teeth to thank for that!

Notion

Day 26
What popular notion do you think the world has most wrong?

I think that the notion the world has wrong is homosexuals. Just because your a homosexual doesn't mean that you will go to hell neither does it mean that it's wrong. I have family that is gay and I was brought up to except everyone no matter what. I hate when people say that God made Adam and Eve and not Adam and Steve, and that if we let homosexuals get married then it would break the "traditional family". That's all a lot of crap! The traditional family was broken a long time ago and homosexuals had nothing to do with that. Love is love no matter what and it doesn't matter if your in love with the same sex or not, you follow your heart to be happy. I know a lot of straight married and couples who are miserable and yet all the homosexuals I know have great marriages or relationships.

Homemade Cough Drops & Cough Drop Lollipops

Skylar's has a little cough, so I decided to make some cough drop lollipops to give him in addition to the cough syrup. I found out how to make these and cough drops on The Pistachio Project blog. They are soooo easy to make! The only ingredient you need is Honey! I don't know about you but cough drop lollipop sounds a lot better to give a preschooler then the actually small cough drops that they can choke on. Plus you know exactly what your giving your child and family. For this I did buy 4" lollipop sticks, lollipop molds and candy molds from Joann's. But you don't have to. I wanted some fun mold for Skylar and wanted cough drops for my husband and myself.

Remember DO NOT give Infants under 1 year of age Honey!!!

Okay so here's how to make them:

Cough Drop Lollipops

1/2 - 1 Cups Organic Honey (Any amount would be good, Regular Honey works too)
Candy Thermometer (Optional)
Lollipop Sticks
Lollipop Molds (You don't need a mold, you can make free form lollipops by pouring the honey over the stick on a non-stick surface)

(Forgot to take a picture before I put it in the pot)

How To Cook
Pour honey into small saucepan & cook over low heat. Stir constantly & bring honey to a boil. If using candy thermometer, insert in & continue to stir the honey until it has reached a temperature of 300 degrees. Remove from heat & move to test phase. If not using the candy thermometer then continue cooking & occasionally test. Just don’t wait too late to test; testing too early is better then testing too late.

How To Test
To make sure your honey has reached the right consistency, place a drop or two of honey into a cup of ice water. If the honey turns & stays hard (like a hard candy) then you are good to go. If it is still soft then you need to keep cooking a bit longer.

Making the Lollipops
With Molds- Grease lollipop molds and insert sticks so that they are ready in the mold. Pour honey into mold & let cool at room temperature. (No cheating and putting them into the fridge. It won’t work)

Cough Drops
You can purchase cough drop molds or any small mold will work. You could also create free form cough drops just like the free form lollipops. Same instructions apply; pour honey into mold or onto a greased non-stick surface and let cool at room temperature. (No cheating and putting them into the fridge. It won’t work)

Add Ins
Now just plain honey is great but you can get really creative with these! You can add cinnamon or ginger or even use some essential oils such as lemon or menthol.

Historic Dinner

Day 25
If you could have dinner with anyone in history, who would it be and what would you eat?

If I could have dinner with anyone it would be Marilyn Monroe and we would have an all you can eat Las Vegas Buffet. Because I love food and all types.

Homemade Cough Syrup

This year my resolution is trying to be even more frugal! As well as trying to live a more natural and healthy lifestyle. As a result I'm making my own cough syrup. There are several recipes online that uses all sorts of ingredients. I want something that would be good for my son as well as for my husband and myself. So the Whiskey cough syrup is out of the question! I found one that on YouTube that has a great tutorial: Grandma Barb's Homemade Cough Syrup

But here's my little tutorial and it just uses 3 simple ingredients!

Here's what you need:

1 1/2 Cups Organic Raw Honey (Raw Honey works well too)
1/2 Cup Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Extra Virgin Olive Oil works well too)
1-5 Organic Lemons, Juiced (Regular FRESH Lemons work great too!)(I use the lemons from my lemon tree)

Step 1:
Add honey, olive oil and lemon juice to a small pot. Stir.

Step 2:
Heat over medium heat just until steaming, stirring. (DO NOT BOIL)

Step 3:
Remove from heat and let cool.

Step 4:
Place into a jar with a lid and store in the refrigerator. Take 1tbsp warmed as needed.

Tips:
Do not give to children under 1 and who are allergic to honey. Use as soon as you feel a cold coming on. Stir and warm before using. It's also great for allergies!

Family Dynamic

Day 24
Describe your family dynamic of your childhood vs your family dynamic now.

Growing up I was a pain in the butt. I didn't listen, I talked back and I would bite. Needless to say I got a spanking which then turned into getting grounded. But growing up I learned to listen better try not to talk back and stop biting. Now as a parent I see how difficult it is to raise a child and I have the up most respect for my parents especially my mom. Now when my 2 year old doesn't listen he gets put in the corner instead of getting spanked. He would rather get spanked then get sent to the corner, which I find funny. I remember when I used to get mad at my mom and say I hated her she would always tell me she loved me which made me even more mad. I now do that to my son, he tells me to go away when he's mad so I go up to him hug and kiss him and tell him I love him.

Years

Day 22
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? 15 years?

In 5 years I see myself having one more kid, hopefully a girl! Also hopefully have my sewing business kick off and have that be my job. Also going to school and being debt free!

In 10 years I see myself graduting college, running a successful business while homeschool my two kids. Having our own home and my husband working for a great iron working company.

In 15 years I see myself going on more vacations with my husband. Maybe adding on to our home and just being happy!

Pet Peeves

Day 11
Describe 5 pet peeves you have.

  1. Not saying excuse me. I hate when your at the store and people just push you out of their way... did their parents not teach them manners?!
  2. People who chew with their mouth open. I'm sorry but even my 2 year old knows how to chew with his mouth closed.
  3. Poor driving. I don't know how some people got their liscense.
  4. Strangers, friends or family telling you how to raise your kid. I'm sorry but no ones perfect and I bet my kid and myself will do great without your help.
  5. Extreme couponers. Since that show came out a lot of stores changed their coupon policy since most of those people abused the system. And really, who needs 100 bottles of hand soap?!!!

Heroes

Day 9
List 3 people who have influenced you and describe how.

  1. My Mom - My mother is a very strong and independent woman. I love that about her. She taught me how to be independent, strong, open minded, and a great mom. My mother never judged me. She always supported all my decisions, even some she didn't agree with. But she's always been there for me, through thick and thin.
  2. Delilah - My cousin has taught me never to give up and that you can do anything you want. She has a lot on her plate, working and going to school full time and has time for family and friends. She has such a big heart, I love that about her. She's been my best friend for like ever! We've always been so close and I'm glad she's my son's god mother.
  3. Audrey - Even though me and my sister may have not seen eye to eye while growing up, now I like to say we are closer then ever. She's a very strong and independent woman just like my mother. She's always been there for me and supported me.
